Who would have thought that such a simple device could mean so much to a community in need of fresh, clean water? Often made from recycled materials – easy to maintain and mend – could this be the perfect pump? We think so!
Petronella's village in Zambia is in a remote area where spare mechanical parts are tricky to track down. This rope pump was built in her village with recycled parts, which are easy to find locally, so Petronella and her whole community have a sustainable solution to sanitation and clean water.
Since the rope pump and well were installed in the village, everyone can now drink and wash their hands with clean water, which reduces illness.
